Important Figure: Issac Thompson

This is a photograph of Issac E. “Tom” Thompson, who taught basket weaving, wood-working, and other crafts at the Minnesota Braille and Sight Saving School from 1936-1965. Even today, we can still see baskets that Tom’s family donated to the MSAB in the school museum.

Issac and his guide dog, Nafti, are pictured in the photograph on the lawn near the superintendent’s home on the school grounds. In this black and white photo, he is wearing a business suit, standing up straight in his white shirt with black tie. His left hand grasps the leash of his German shepherd dog. A tall tree with luxuriant foliage and a bush are behind his left side. Another thinner tree stood further behind his right side. Behind the tree on the right is a country house with numerous windows.
