In the autumn of 2018, a group of Carleton College History professors collaborated to design a new kind of history course, one that was devoted not just to the study of history by academics, but to its practice by, with and for audiences and organizations outside of higher education.  That course, “Historians for Hire”, now serves to connect Carleton students to a range of institutions and partners, including the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind (MSAB), which has a very rich archive of sources from its 150+ years in Faribault.  This blog highlights some of the specific projects that Carleton students are exploring, on top of a great deal of work that they have done to inventory and identify the MSAB’s treasure trove of objects, documents and files.
